Note to self

Just a note to myself, you can't get Suburban parts at the Ford dealership, or so I've heard.

Space Humor

I was reading an article in USA today. The last sentence made me smile. Maybe I'm still young at heart. On second thought at my age it may strike a little too close too home.

Intro to the Industry

Matthew is working towards his mechanical engineering degree. He has an interest in working in the Oil and Gas Industry so I pulled out a few books to help him start building his industry knowledge. I thought I'd start him off easy.

911 Review

When I was in college I had a poster of a Porsche 911 on my wall.  It was my dream car of the future.

I was looking at MSN Auto the other night doing some research when I decided to look up a 911.  After reading the review I'm thinking it must be a pretty good ride.
Meisterstuck translated is "masterpiece", but carefully read the overall review: Save up, sell your mother, sell your wife, rob a bank just get a 911.  There is no substitute.

Funny thing is that he doesn't even say "sell your kids".  He probably just figures if you've had kids you'll never afford one of these anyway.  A man can still dream.
I'll need a bigger garage.
Or, maybe I'll just get an oversized hanger to house the airplane...
 and the 911.

Donut Palace Security

This week I was out in South Central Texas visiting some of the project sites for work .  I was driving through one of the small towns in the evening when I came across this site.  Since I was out visiting project sites I had a camera handy and snapped this shot.  This isn't helping to change any stereotypes.

Don't Bring Your Pokemon Stuff

I was sorting through some old papers and came across this gem.  This is from 1999 so Matthew would have been eight years old.  He must have had a lesson at church about journals.

High Mediocrity?

Last week the youth invited several of the "experienced" brothers and sisters from the ward to participate in a game night. It's an opportunity for the youth to get to know some of the brothers and sisters from the ward that they might not otherwise associate with and just possibly there might be a chance for some of them to accidentally inflict share some wisdom with the youth. We have a large youth group, so we had more youth than adults and so I stepped in to be an adult at one of the tables. The youth were moving between tables to play games and as part of the activity, each time a group moved to a new table  a question was pulled from a jar as part of an ice breaker. Here are the five questions I pulled out with my answers (I kept the questions because I thought it might make a good blog post):

Q. What would you name the autobiography of your life?
A. High Mediocrity??? (There's probably a whole blog post or maybe even a book to explain that one.)

Q. What was your favorite food as a child?
A. Lasagna that my mother used to make for Sunday afternon meals.

Q. What was your favorite date?
A. My first date with Marti.  (Interestingly enough all of the youth in this group were under 16, so most said their birthday.  I pressed the question a little bit and one of the girls said, we wouldn't tell you anyway, knowing that as church leaders we encourage them not to date until after they are 16.)

Q. What is one of your favorite quotes?
A. My old standby Moses 1:39.  "For behold this is my work and my glory to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man."

Q. Have you ever had something happen to you that youth thought was bad but it turned out for the best?
A. When we lived in San Angelo I put my name in for the newly vacated District Engineer position (supervisory position).  I was not selected, but two years later I was selected.  During those two years I worked on projects and gained knowledge that prepared me to able to eventually work overseas and eventually progress into the position that I have now.

Sammie the Football Snob

During my aforementioned trip to the Tractor Supply Store, I picked up a new toy for Sammie. For those who have visited, you know she loves to retrieve her football. Her current football used to squeek, but the squeeker has long since been worn out. In fact Sammie has worn out several footballs. We have been looking for a replacement for some time, but they don't seem to make that type anymore. We have tried a squeeky hot dog and various other toys that she hasn't liked.  Today I thought I'd give it one more try and bought an orange squeeky ball.
Sammie, The Football Snob
So much for trying. Apparently Sammie is a football snob and will only chase a football.  When I threw her new ball to her, she just jumped out of the way and gave me a look of "really, you expect me to catch or chase that thing?". I don't know what we are going to do when her current football gets lost or is finally entirely worn out.

Tractor Supply Store and My New Flock

The birds have been eating the dog's food and making a mess on the back porch, so I made a trip to the "Tractor Supply Store" this morning to see if they had a fake owl we could put out to keep the birds away (since the dog's obviously aren't doing it). There is still enough country in me that I find this store fascinating. During my visit I was thinking I/we need to buy some property just so I can make more trips to this store. While making my first loop through the store (there is lots of cool stuff, so I made two full laps during my visit), I eyed the following:
What could have been my new flock.
(It's not you it's the picture.  Apparently I got in a hurry while staging
and taking a picture in the middle of the store.)
I almost brought them home, but instead opted just for the picture.  I guess my sister will be the only one with a flock to take care of.

First Stop?

Jacob has a couple of his friends over to spend the night. We picked them up on the way home from the health club. After arriving home I took my stuff to my room and when I came back out where did I find them? Gathered around the pantry, eyeballing their take for the night. I wonder if there will be any chocolate Zingers left in the morning?
